Reunion Island

Réunion is a French overseas territory located in the midst of the Indian Ocean, East of the island of Madagascar and to the West and very close to its more well known neighbour, Mauritius. Réunion is nevertheless an interesting and unique Island.

On the South Coast lies an active volcano, while the West Coast features sandy beaches, with rugged mountain terrain and lush forests in between. Réunion offers activities to suit adrenalin junkies from canyoning the Island’s many waterfalls to scuba diving and surfing, or more relaxing pursuits like gentle hikes. Réunion has fewer hotels but a nice variety of guest houses, bed and breakfasts, and lodges especially within two of the ‘cirques’, Cilaos and Mafate. As a French speaking country, it would be good to know a few phrases at least for your stay in Réunion.
